Caro-Kann Powerbook 2013

The greatly extended version of the Caro-Kann Powerbook 2013 is based on over 200 000 games, of which more than 130 000 come from the engine room of playchess.com. Nowadays the Caro-Kann is played in a totally different way. That is also reflected in the Power Book. After 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 the main continuation is no longer 3.Nc3/Nd2 dxe4, but quite clearly 3.e5 Bf5 4.Nf3. Thanks to the engine games, the Powerbook offers some quite bizarre branches. One example is the line 4...e6 5.Be2 Nd7 6.0-0 Ne7 7.c3 h6 8.Nbd2 Qc7: whereas in the ChessBase online database (Mega + correspondence chess) there are approximately 20 games, the Caro-Kann Powerbook 2013 contains over 10 000 (!). Unknown variations like this offer opportunities to surprise your opponent whilst you yourself remain on tried and trusted ground.
