Gisbert Jacoby

(born 1943) was for more than ten years the trainer of the Hamburg support group, the workshop in which were forged the talents of young Hamburg chess players, some of whom on to become grandmasters such as Matthias Wahls and Karsten Müller. In the 80s he was a trainer in the Bundesliga and a second of Robert Hübner for the candidates final against Viktor Korchnoi in 1980 and the candidates match against Vassily Smyslov in 1983.  Together with Matthias Wüllenweber and Frederic Friedel he founded the ChessBase company in 1986.
