The Spanish Fianchetto

En la lucha por posiciones jugables y desequilibradas tras 1.e4 e5, muchos ajedrecistas de primera fila (entre los que está el Campeón del Mundo Magnus Carlsen) han vuelto la vista a 3…g6 contra la Ruy López (2.Cf3 Cc6 3.Ab5). Las negras apuntan a fianchetar el alfil de rey combinado, dependiendo de la reacción de las blancas, con …Cf6 o un rápido …f5. Si se juega rápidamente, se sale de los patrones normales de la Ruy López y a menudo se llega a posiciones más típicas de la India de Rey, en especial cuando las blancas cierran el centro con d5. Las negras esperan que los jugadores de 1.e4 estarán menos familiarizados en ese territorio y con las opciones de ataque naturales que ofrece al segundo jugador. Española

The Spanish Opening is one of the absolutely oldest. It is named after the Spanish priest Ruy López de Segura, who in 1561 presented his analyses on this way of starting the game in a book. But even today the Spanish can be seen in many games of top players and it is quite clearly the most important of the Open Games. Not only does White develop his bishop, he also immediately puts pressure on the black e5-pawn. Whereas previously 3...a6 was almost obligatory, nowadays 3...Nf6 – the Berlin Defence – is favoured.
