Maxime Vachier-Lagrave is considered the leading Najdorf expert of all. Recently, at the Sinquefield Cup in Saint Louis 2022, his favourite variation was put to the test by Leinier Dominguez and Levon Aronian with two new ideas: In the modern main variation with 8...h5 and the following main moves 9.Nd5 Bxd5 10.exd5 Nbd7 11.Qd2 g6 12.0-0-0 Nb6 13.Kb1 Nbxd5 14.Bg5 Be7 the GM from Cuba tried 15.a3. And only a few days later, Aronian uncorked the novelty 16.Rf1! after 15.Bd3 Qc7. Robert Ris takes a thorough look at these two games in his analysis – Video playing time: 30:44

Mihail Marin may not be satisfied with his personal performance in the Romanian Superliga 2022, but at least he managed a nice win with the black pieces against his young compatriot and strong GM Bogdan Daniel Deac. The game started with a move sequence from the Modern Defence (for which Marin has a few tips in his video too), but a few moves later a King's Indian variation with early h4 was reached (in principle White plays 6.h4 instead of the main move 6.Bg5 of the Averbakh Variation). In his analysis, Marin goes into the critical moments and shows the game up to the final winning combination on move 52. Video playing time: 28:27
Nijat Abasov contributes "The brilliancy" of this CBM Extra. In the 2022 Turkish Championship, he achieved a victory with the white pieces in the popular Ragozin Variation. The young GM from Azerbaijan decided to go for a "rather old and, I hoped, forgotten variation" and in this position
continued with 12.b4! Nxc3 with 13.Qa1. His courage was rewarded with a great win!
In addition to the brilliancy, 37 other games with detailed commentary await you in the "Lucky bag"!
Romain Edouard's analyses of the French Championship 2022 form a special focus, and Mihal Krasenkow has examined five selected games from the German Masters 2022.
