Dr. Karsten Müller
Dr. Karsten Müller, born in Hamburg in 1970,
is a German chess grandmaster, mathematics PhD, coach and author.
He earned the grandmaster title in 1998 and reached his peak rating of 2558 in 1999.
Müller played for Hamburger SK in the German Chess Bundesliga from 1988
but withdrew from the team after the 2014/15 season for health reasons.
In 2002, he completed his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Hamburg.
Müller is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading endgame experts.
Together with Frank Lamprecht, he wrote the standard works Secrets of Pawn Endings and Fundamental Chess Endings,
alongside numerous other books and training courses.
For many years, he has contributed the endgame section to ChessBase Magazine
and produces the training series The Endgame Academy, among others.
In 2007, the German Chess Federation named him Coach of the Year.
