The setup 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 g6 3.Nbd2, inspired by some lines Black uses to counter the white kingside fianchetto, is neither new nor overly impressive at first glance. White simply aims to develop solidly and delay the real battle to the middlegame. However, by incorporating a quick b2-b4, White not only seizes space, but limits Black's active possibilities during the opening phase. While Black may attempt to generate play, these efforts often fizzle out, resulting in a solid and controlled game for White.
