1.e4 c6 2.Nf3 d5 3.d3
The French GM Christian Bauer has already tried out many lines against the Caro-Kann. In his video for the new CBM Extra he introduces you to the variation 2.Nf3 d5 3.d3, based on his game against IM Christopher Noe from the Second Bundesliga, which continued with 3…Qc7 4.Nc3 dxe4 5.dxe4. But Bauer also goes into various alternatives on the third move - 3...dxe4, 3...Bg4 and 3...g6 - citing games by Firouzja, Nakamura, Aronian and many others.
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.f3 c5 4.d5 d6 5.e4 Bg7 6.Nc3 e6 7Bg5
In his game against Dennis Wagner at the European Team Club Championship 2022 David Navara got a position on the board that Mihail Marin recently looked at from Black's point of view in his opening video in ChessBase Magazine #211. Navara, however, reached this position via a completely different move order and presents his game from White's perspective!
After 10...Re8 Navara continued with the side line 11.Be2 (11.Ne2 is the main line and is treated in CBM #211 by Marin). In his analysis the Czech top player explains that his opponent subsequently lost valuable time. So Navara not only gained an objective advantage with the exemplary advance 17.f4 and 18.e5, but at the same time set a trap worth seeing – capturing Black’s queen in the middle of the board! Video play time: 16:31 minutes.
GM Yago Santiago contributes "The Brilliancy" of this CBM Extra. Against the Gruenfeld he chose a very ambitious variation with 5.h4 and 10.Rh4, which has also been discussed by leading experts already. On the (prepared) novelty
13.e5!? Santiago is particularly proud of, especially since this move is not at all one of the engines' favourites.
In addition to the Brilliancy, the "Lucky bag" offers 44 other games with detailed analysis!
Anish Giri, for example, takes a close look at two games of the young superstar Arjun Erigaisi. Romain Edouard analyses six rapid chess games of the world's top players. Master trainer Adrian Mikhalchishin examines four games from the women's Candidates Tournament in Monaco etc.
Last but not least: the “Update service” provides over 40,000 new games for your database!
Once again, practically the entire world's top players are represented!
The games of the Update Service are also included in the Mega Update Service 2022, which you can use with the programmes ChessBase 15/16/17 (and a corresponding subscription).
