Cette variante de la sicilienne se joue depuis des décennies à haut niveau, ce qui forge sa solide réputation. Bent Larsen a été le premier Top GM à l’employer régulièrement. D’autres joueurs de premier ordre, tels que Victor Korchnoi, Mikhail Botvinnik ou Vassili Ivanchuk, ont ensuite également ajouté cette ouverture à leur armure!

Actuellement, Vladimir Malakhov est le grand spécialiste de cette variante. Accelerated Dragon

In addition to the sequence of moves 2...d6 and 5...g6, which lead to the normal Dragon, Black can also try the Accelerated Dragon. The idea is to reach, after 2...Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6, a position in which …d7-d5 can be played in a single move. A concession is made in this move order: White can play 5.c4 and set up the socalled Maroczy Structure, which gives him very good control of the squares d5 and b5.
