Herman Grooten
Herman Grooten, born in 1958,
is a Dutch International Master, FIDE Trainer and renowned chess author.
During a coaching career spanning more than 45 years,
he has worked with numerous talented players,
including future grandmasters Loek van Wely, Jan Werle and Benjamin Bok.
His award-winning Chess Strategy for Club Players is among his best-known instructional books,
and he is also the author of the multi-volume Understanding Before Moving series.
Grooten produces training courses for ChessBase and, until 2025,
presented the weekly video series of the same name, which concluded after 236 episodes.
