GM Nicholas Pert makes his debut for ChessBase Magazine Extra with an update on his DVD "An Attacking Repertoire with 1.d4 - Vol.2". In the Nimzo-Indian with 4.Qc2 Pert recommends after 4...0-0 with 5.e4 to push the action. After the moves 5...d5 6.e5 Ne4 7.Bd3 c5 8.Nf3 cxd4 9.Nxd4 Nbd7 10.Bf4 black can continue traditionally with 10...Ndc5 in the modern way with 10...Qh4. Against the old main line he presents a pawn sacrifice, which offers white excellent attacking chances. And in the case of topical line Pert recommends an approach with 11.g5 Qhh5 12.0-0 which is completely different than on his DVD! The presentation is divided into two videos with a total playing time of 40 minutes.
Her winning game against Humpy Koneru at the Women's Grand Prix in Monaco in December 2019 was the trigger for Elisabeth Pähtz to record a video series for ChessBase Magazine Extra on the Awerbach System in the King’s Indian from Black’s point of view. In a total of five video clips, the German number one presents her favourite build-up, which begins after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Be2 0-0 6.Bg5 with the "unbelievably good waiting move" 6...a6. This issue includes the first three videos.
Attention: Elisabeth Pähtz recorded the videos in German only!
The "Lucky bag" comes up with analyses from well-known authors and players. The first one is the Polish world-class player Jan-Krzysztof Duda, who reviews his winning games against Daniil Dubov and Magnus Carlsen from the "Lindores Abbey" tournament.
More analyses are provided by Krishnan Sasikiran, Romain Edouard, Karsten Müller et al. Peter Heine Nielsen takes a closer look at two games by Magnus Carlsen from the “Legends of Chess” and discovers interesting parallels: both victories were initiated by retreats.
In Carlsen,M - Giri,A 1-0 following 1.d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 4.Nc3 Bb4 5.Bg5 h6,
White's 6.Bd2!? prepared to get down to action on the kingside: 6...0-0 7.g4!?.
Meanwhile in Carlsen,M - Ding,L 1-0, it was the white king's knight which, in a standard position from the Anti-Moscow Variation, was to take an unusual route:
11.Nd2!? (instead of the common 11.Ne5) which was followed by 11...Qb6 12.a4 a6 13.e5 Nd5 14.Nde4!
A total of 27 detailed analyses await you in the new "Lucky bag". Another example:
Krishnan Sasikiran has attended to three of his games. Sasikiran,K - Artemiev,V 1-0 was dubbed the "Nameless Immortal" on the internet, a razor-sharp Sicilian with complications galore
before White finally went for the kill with 26.Rd7!! Nxd7 27.Nxh6+!.
As luck would have it, Georgios Souleidis also chose this sharp game for his video "The brilliancy" in this issue!
Last but not least: The update service delivers over 50,000 new games for your database. And as you can see, almost the entire world's top players are represented again!
